Formal Hairstyles And How To Choose The Right One

by Gen Wright

There are a few moments in a person's life that are very special like weddings, proms, anniversaries, dinner dates, and so on. And it is important to look your very best in these special events. Nothing can make you feel more beautiful than looking at your old pictures and seeing how perfect you looked in those special moments in your life. It is not enough that you choose the right dress. It is equally important to choose the right hairstyle.

Choosing the right formal hairstyle can be a bit more difficult than choosing a regular haircut or hairstyle. This is because the event is more special and it only happens a few times, if not once, in a person's life. You should make sure that your hair looks perfect. Moreover, formal hairstyles are usually more elaborate and expensive. This is the reason why you should make sure that you choose the right one.

There are a few factors that you need to consider when choosing the right hairstyle. Here are some of these considerations.

* Outfit or Dress. Your hairstyle should complement or match your outfit. They should not compete for attention. For example, if you have a very elaborate wedding gown or prom dress, you should consider wearing simple hairstyles like updo hairstyles or sleek formal ponytails. Do not wear an elaborate hairstyle with an equally elaborate outfit or it will look too overwhelming. On the other hand, wearing a very simple hairstyle together with a very simple dress will make you look underdressed.

* Face Shape. Just like choosing a regular haircut or hairstyle, you should also consider your face shape when choosing, say, wedding hairstyles or prom hairstyles. If you have a rounded face, it would be better to have an elaborate updo with a lot of things going on at the top of your head, like curls, flowers, etc. This will make your face look longer. On the other hand, an oblong face shape should sport some bangs to make the face look shorter.

* Time. If you only have a few hours left before the event, an elaborate hairstyle might be impossible to do. Choose a simple but formal hairstyle that will complement your face and outfit. If you have all the time in the world, then you can choose any type of formal hairstyle that you want. That is why t is important to plan your hairstyle days before the actual event.

* Price. If you are going to a salon, be prepared to pay a more expensive price than if you are just going to have a normal haircut. This is because a formal hairstyle takes a longer time and is more difficult to fix. If you think you can fix your hair, by all means do it yourself to save money.

Wedding Dress Trends

by Jamie Hanson

Wedding season is in full swing this year, with the greatest percentages of weddings taking place in June, July, and August. The late spring and summer months are popular for weddings due to a greater selection and availability of flowers, better options for outdoor venues, etc. One of the most important aspects of planning a wedding (for the bride, at least!) is finding the perfect wedding dress.

Traditionally, bridal gowns have been white, long, with veils, trains, and detail work. Today's brides have many more options as to shade (ivory, candlelight white, white-some brides even choose color accents and detail work), and length (tea length, anyone? How about knee length?). Veils are optional, with some brides opting for fresh flowers in the hair while others choose between blusher veils, shoulder, elbow, fingertip, waltz, chapel, and cathedral length veils. Tiaras are also popular, with or without a veil.

Current wedding dress trends include asymmetrical cuts-this can be achieved by gathered material up on one side (ruching around the waist), uneven neck or hemline, or bows/rosettes strategically placed. One-shoulder dresses are also emerging this year, probably due in part to Michelle Obama's gown at the Inaugural Ball. Simple dresses are also popular, which offers greater possibilities for accessorizing. And although long, elegant dresses will never go out of style, shorter dresses are becoming more popular, especially for destination weddings-think waves and sand.

Vintage styles are also gaining popularity, especially from the 1950's era. Birdcage veils and tulle skirts are two features of this style. Sheer elements are "in," whether it be the bottom portion of skirt, sleeves, or wraps, today's bride has the "light and breezy" option. While color for the bride used to be a big no-no, today's bride can accent her gown with colored sashes, colored detail work (beads or embroidery), bows (bows are popular now too), and more. If you want to stay traditional but still have color, having a big, bright, colorful bouquet is also a current wedding trend. What about sleeves? Although it seems like strapless has been the staple for the past several years, experts say sleeves are coming back into fashion-light or sheer fabrics in short or three quarter sleeves.

If you are planning a wedding in 2010, you'll have plenty of options to choose from as you shop for your dream bridal gown. From blusher to cathedral veils, tea-length to floor length with train, white to color, you are sure to find the perfect dress and be in style.

Bridal Headpieces for a Summer Wedding

by Dena Merlino

Summer is widely considered to be the most beautiful time to get married. With abundant sunshine, warm nights and gentle breezes, it's no wonder May through August is the most popular time for weddings. Brides have many fantastic options when it comes to summer wedding attire, especially in the headpiece department. Savvy summer brides are opting for light, elegant headpieces to complete their perfect ensemble.

Flower Power

Nothing says summer like flowers. Hair flowers are gaining popularity among chic summer brides. Flowers lend beauty and charm to any look. Trend-setting brides with a flair for the dramatic will love the Pinwheel Feather Flower Clip with Rhinestone Center. This large, feathery accent is perfect for wedding hairstyles requiring a single flower. For sophisticated updos, the Bridal Set of Four Gardenia Flower Hair Coils is stunning. Small satin gardenias accented with a delicate spray of Swarovski crystal rhinestones lend grace to your wedding hairstyle. Seeking an exotic summer look? You'll swoon over the Bridal Satin Orchid Flower on Comb with Pearls and Crystals. Tasteful Tiaras

These posh headpieces scream glamour, luxury and fortune, and are rapidly becoming the headpiece of choice for warm-weather wives-to-be. Planning to show off a summer tan on your special day? Go for gold. The Brushed Metallic Leaf Tiara will complement your glow with its soft gold color. This gorgeous tiara features a striking leaf motif, and is embellished with rhinestones and freshwater pearls - so perfect for summer! Another option: the Gold Tiara with Metal Flower Design and Crystals, a tall, soft gold piece accented with crystals and rhinestones. Princess brides will love the Bridal Open Regal Style Tiara with Crystals. This dazzling tiara oozes opulence with its grand design of Swarovski rhinestone flowers and multi-size Swarovski accent rhinestones. For tiara lovers desiring a light, summery look, try the Crystal Tiara becomes a Necklace. The name says it all. This delicate crystal tiara is the epitome of elegance. After the ceremony, simply transfer it from your head to your neck for a striking reception look.

Classic Headbands

This headpiece option ranks high among brides planning to walk down the aisle in especially high and/or humid temperatures. Summer brides, always remember that bangs and humidity frequently don't get along well. Unless your bangs are 100% humidity resistant, consider wearing a headband on your special day. Your wedding photos will thank you. Adorned with beads, pearls or crystals, headbands offer fuss-free, sophisticated style to any wedding ensemble. Girlie girls are all about the Headband with Chunky Crystals & Pearl Clusters. This oh-so-chic headband is perfect for brides who demand high glamour. Great for posh, formal evening weddings and high-class receptions. Sleek, modern and stylish, the Bridal Silver Crystal Geometric Headband features a smooth, silver headband of clear Swarovski crystals set in a geometric pattern; an elegant summer look. Love deco style? The uniquely fabulous Rhinestone Headband with Side Spray Feather/Flower is festive, fun and lends a chic, vintage look. The side spray feather/flower features a rhinestone sparkle for just the right touch of glitz.

Creative Pins and Combs

These decorative hair accessories are ideal for both traditional and modern hairstyles. Typically adorned with crystals, pearls, rhinestones or flowers, they can be worn in many ways. Pull hair back on one side and secure with a comb for a warm, inviting look. Scatter embellished pins throughout an updo for striking elegance. With pins and combs, it's all about experimenting until you find just the right look. Be sure to experiment far ahead of your special day so you'll have your perfect look ready to go when it's time to hit the aisle. For timeless elegance, choose the Set of 6 Silver Hairpins Accented with Pearls. Wear these in your updo for a classic accent. They are the perfect accent to any wedding hairstyle, period. Glamour gals will adore the Rhodium Floral Comb. Embellished with pave set rhinestones, this vintage-inspired stunner will unquestionably wow your guests, not to mention him.

Veils, Veils, Veils!

Last, but certainly not least: the bridal veil. Dignified, graceful and timeless, veils are known as the perfect finishing touch. There are countless veil styles available, but for summer weddings, shorter veils are best. For a chic, sassy look, pair the Bridal Russian Net Facial Blusher Veil with a flower comb underneath. The Short Pencil Edge Veil Embellished with Pearl Clusters and Rhinestones is dainty and feminine; the perfect lightweight veil for classic summer brides. Tradition meets glamour with the Bridal Short One-Tier Scallop Edge Veil with Crystal Embellishment. Adorned with clear bugle beads and Swarovski crystals, this veil is still surprisingly light and airy enough for warm weather weddings. With so many bridal headpiece options for summer weddings, you're sure to find the perfect look to create a fabulous finish for your special day. Congratulations to you, the blushing bride, and your dashing groom!
