Elegant Wedding Hairstyles

The first step to discovering your perfect wedding day hair is to look through wedding and hairstyle magazines. This will give you an idea of what you like and what you don't like, which you can take to your stylist when you go for your trial. You will want to consider the style and formality of your gown when deciding on how to wear your hair. Look for styles that are consistent with the look of your gown.

Also consider the neckline and sleeves of your dress when deciding on a hairstyle. If your gown has a detailed neckline or back, you do not want your hair to cover it. Similarly, if you are wearing a strapless dress and want to show off neck and chest, an up-do is the way to go. Long, flowing curls look great with scoop or v-neck dresses that have any sleeve length. You just want to keep in mind that your hair is meant to complement your dress and not cover elements that make it unique.

Just like with your makeup, you will want to have at least one hair trial before your wedding day whether you are going to a stylist or doing it yourself. Testing out your hairstyle before the big day will help ensure you get the look you want. Your stylist will be able to tell you what types of styles will work best on your hair, considering both the length and texture of your hair, and the shape of your face. You will also want to take your headpiece and veil with you so your stylist can work these accessories into the overall look of your hair. If you plan on removing either of these items after the ceremony, you will want to let your stylist know so she can show you how to remove them without messing up your style.

When you go for your trial, discuss with your stylist what looks will work best not only for your hair length and texture, but also for the environment of your wedding. Weather elements, such as humidity, rain, and wind will all affect the way your hair will look on your wedding day. Even if your ceremony and reception are both indoors, you will most likely have to step foot outside at one point, so you will want to make sure your hair will stay perfect all day long.

Once you have decided upon a style, you need to think about how to prepare your hair to look its best on the big day. You should get a trim a couple of weeks before your wedding to get rid of any split ends. If you color or perm your hair, you will want to do this well enough in advance that your hair has time to relax and look natural after the treatment. Also, make sure you know how your stylist wants your hair when you go to have it done on the big day. Often, hair is easier to manage if it has not been washed that day, so find out if there are any special instructions that you need to follow.
