Thanks to Kate Middleton, one of the hottest accessories for wedding hair flowers is a hair piece made from fabric flowers or feathers. They are gorgeous and can be used in so many ways it's no wonder everyone is including them in their ceremony.

Although Kate wore fresh flowers of lily of the valley, almost everyone who attended the Royal Wedding wore a hair piece, a hat, or a fascinator. Many were made with feathers and fabric flowers.

These small works of art are constructed on a hair comb, clip, or head band. They can be worn on top of the head, on either side, or toward the back. They can have a veil attached or it can be positioned under the piece with a separate comb.

A birdcage veil is a great choice to wear with these pieces. This type of veil is made from French or Russian netting or illusion netting which gives a softer look. The length of a birdcage veil can be just across the eyes, across the nose, or to the chin.

Another popular way to incorporate a veil is to have a small piece of the netting designed with a flower and feathers. It can be used to make a bow or small circle “base” for the flowers. This design is also attached to a comb, clip, or head band. For the bride to be who doesn't want a full veil, this is a great choice.

My favorite wedding hair piece is called a fascinator. There are so many designs it's really hard to choose just one, but I simply love when flowers and feathers are placed on a “disc”. This is a type of mini hat that makes an elegant hair piece and still allows most of the hair style to be seen. It also can be removed without messing up the hair.

The disc can be covered in fabric to match the wedding dress. A small circle of Russian or French veil looks great when placed under the disc. Fabric organdy or organza silk flowers can be attached on top of the disc and a few ostrich feathers to give it an extra touch of glamour.

A unique way to make the fascinators extra special is to attach a crystal broach or earrings to the disc. They can be removed and worn long after the wedding. Many brides are opting for a matching fascinator for the maid of honor, bridesmaids, and flower girl. Attaching a broach or earrings makes a lovely gift and adds that extra sparkle during the ceremony.

Of course, there are so many styles to choose from ranging from just a few feathers to large elaborate designs of flowers, feathers, pearls and crystals. A very subtle one could be made from just a few feathers arranged on a hair comb with a single pearl at the base of the feathers. Another subtle style could be made on a comb or clip using one or two silk flowers and a few airy feathers.

Feathers and silk flowers can be dyed to match any color of fabric which makes it easy to coordinate the bridal party. Hair pieces are all about how they make you feel and that should be like a princess! Be careful when you try on these wonderful accessories. If you go into a bridal shop wearing very casual clothes and only try on a hair piece, it is impossible to see how beautiful they really are.

As you shop for your wedding hair piece, keep in mind that as with anything, there is a large price range. I have found that the inexpensive pieces have flowers that do not hold their shape and are poorly made. Fabric flowers should be made from a good grade of fabric and they should look more like a real flower.

This is an accessory that will breathe new life into the wedding ensemble. Have fun with it on your special day and enjoy the fascination with wedding hair flowers!

Be sure to show them to your stylist of choice before the day of the wedding so they have a good idea of what they will be working with and together you can discuss what styles work best with your veil or accessory. If you don't have it purchased yet but plan to wear one then simply buy something similar from the store.

10. Veil Removal. If you do plan to wear a veil then ask your stylist for suggestions on veil removal depending on what kind of veil you are using. One suggestion is to consider a veil that is not sewn to the main head-piece or tiara but can be easily attached or removed with velcro which is also known as hook-and-loop.

13. Try before making a final choice. Discuss with your stylist on trying your wedding hairstyle choice before the day of your actual wedding so you can truly determine whether this style will work well for you or not. You most likely will love the way it turns out and decide to stick with that choice but you may find that it might look a bit off, needs some tweaking, or you may need to pick an entirely different style if it just doesn't give you the right look. 14. Listen to your instincts. You may find you are uncomfortable with a certain stylist or not as thrilled with an accessory as you first thought. As a top wedding photographer with Butterfly Photography (www.butterflyphotography.ca) in Vancouver, BC, I always get asked by my clients about what they can do on their part to ensure they have beautiful wedding photos. Here's a bunch of tips I always share with them.

Selecting photo shoot location.

1. In a typical wedding, the formals and creative portraits are taken in the few hours between the end of the ceremony and start of the reception. Therefore, you want make the most of the time you have with your photographer for your creative portraits. To ensure you get the pictures you want, scope out some locations before you even meet your photographer. Have an idea of what theme you would like your photos to have (i.e. urban setting or natural setting) and specific locations you would like to go to. Remember to provide this information to your photographer.

2. If possible, try choosing a location that has meaning to you and your partner. Locations where you first met, shared your first kiss, had first date, or had your proposal are ideal! Shooting at these locations will bring out so much more emotion when looking at your images.

3. If schedule is important, choose a location that is within 15 minutes driving time of your ceremony site and reception site. Remember, excessive driving time will cut into photo time.

4. When selecting the location, remember to account for the time it takes to park your vehicle and also walking (in heels) to the scenic location. There is nothing worse than having to cut locations for your wedding photos or be over an hour late for your reception because of scheduling issues. Selecting a photographer.

1. Besides budget, the most important thing is personality. Choose a photographer that you can connect with and have a good laugh! There is nothing worse than having a photographer where you personalities do not mesh well. This could lead to awkwardness during the photo shoot and images where the facial expression is not natural or uncomfortable.

Preparations for wedding.

1. Sleep: Get enough sleep (8 hours minimum) the night before your wedding to avoid tired eyes in your wedding photos.

2. Hair: Do not use any shimmery or glittery hair gel / spray because sparkles catching the light turn white in photos and end up looking like dandruff in your hair.

3. Makeup: A professionally trained makeup artist should know this, but everyday "day" makeup application is not the same as application for photography or glamour. So if you are doing your own make up, please add some dimension to your face by using blush, bronzer, and highlight powder -- there are some "how to" guides on the Internet to help you achieve this. Or you can also head to your local MAC where the staff there will show you how and where to apply these items, and what is suitable for your bone structure. Please practice a few times with the entire make up ensemble before your wedding day.

4. Facials: A lot of brides like to get treatment for their skin for their wedding. If you getting a facial, make sure to schedule your spa session at least 2 weeks before the wedding. That way if anything goes wrong (allergies or over exfoliation), your skin will have time to heal back to normal before the wedding day.

5. Dress: A bustle is very handy. Make sure to have a bustle installed and/or a loop sewn inside for you to hold up the dress train with your hand. Sometimes bridesmaids forget to do their "duty".

6. Tide Pen: This handy little pen can remove stains which are bound to happen on a white dress. Make sure to follow the tide pen's instructions and test the tide pen in an inconspicuous location of your dress before you use it.

7. Food & Water: Things tend to get very busy during the wedding, and before you know it, you may have skipped breakfast or lunch. Have snacks and water handy to keep hydrated and your energy levels up so you can enjoy your day!

The wedding day. 1. Perfume/deodorant: Always apply these items prior to putting on the dress as it may stain your dress.

2. Walking down the aisle: Remember to walk down the aisle one at a time. Walk slowly so your photographer can take multiple photos in case you blink. During the walk, look at your guests, look at the groom, enjoy your day, and avoid looking at the camera or the floor.

3. Have fun, relax and enjoy your day! Take time for each other and think about your day.

A DJ (short for Disc Jockey) is unquestionably your MC (short for Master - or Mistress - of Ceremonies). Here are some good ideas for September colors for your wedding. I love this one color that is a light green. I understand that this is not a fall color. The light green would go beautifully with a darker green or a darker red/orange. This would "ground" the color in a more summer-fall transitional theme. You could use three colors- the light green, a darker green (dark sage, hunter, etc), and pair it with a gold, yellow, burnt orange, or dark red for accents.

This would be a monochromatic color scheme with complementary accents. If you want to browse some more color schemes, go to any website and look up any color you would think would go nice with your wedding dress.

I am also trying to decide what colors would look nice for an October wedding. I am also interested in such colors like, wine/cream, wine/champagne, and wine/gold. Other colors to throw in there that would go nicely would be a deeper shade of copper and another lighter/darker red. As a rule, you don't want to wear white because that's what the bride wears. I really do think that that outfit would look really nice. Make sure that you bring with you some kind of a jacket or coat that why when you get cool you will have something to put on. On the other hand it would still bring the outfit out more if you were to wear something that it light and airy and that you can just hang on something on tie it to your waist.

Plum & silver sounds lovely! Silver accents would be lovely on your plum dresses. If you go for another color, it can over-complicate the look. As silver is the 'accessory' color (this means it's the color used to complement your main color, which is used in hints) then it would be very suitable.

But try not to put too much of the silver all over the dress. Having too much silver on the dress will not show the plum as much. Having like a shahs or a ribbon on the dress that is silver will be just as nice and you will be able to show more or the plum color and some of the silver color with out having to over power one of the other colors.

You could even have your bridesmaids put in ribbons or small flowers in there hair to bring out the colors of the dress.

Similarly, hair updos can provide a casual look for day to day activities or a business look for work. Or, those looking for a little added sex appeal can experiment with a variety of hair updos to let the sultry side shine.

Half Up/Half Down Hair Updos

One interesting variation of hair updos is the half up/half down style. These modified hair updos involve pinning up part of the hair while allowing the rest of the hair to flow around the shoulders or back. These hair updos can look stunning on a wedding day or they can look sexy for a night on the town.

Generally, those using half up/half down style hair updos have medium to long hair, though shorter hair can still be attractive with these styles. Many women choosing to sport one of these hair updos, however, elect to add hair extensions to add to the contrast and beauty of the style. Half up/half down style hair updos can work with curly hair or straight hair and women with bangs can easily incorporate the hair cut into the style.

Women with fine hair sometimes have a difficult time with half up/half down style hair updos because the pins holding it in place have a tendency to slip. Therefore, it is generally best to treat the hair ahead of time with plenty of gel and holding spray and to use many bobby pins.

Creating Half Up/Half Down Hair Updos

Even if the hair is not thin, it is best to refrain from washing the hair for at least 24 hours before creating a half up/half down style. This is because the natural oils in the hair help the parts and knots used in these hair updos stay tight and long lasting. If the hair has been recently washed, it needs to be treated with hair spray or gel to prep it for styling.

After the hair is ready for hair updos, it should be brushed thoroughly and made free of tangles and knots. Then, sections of about 1-2” thickness should be created and straightened with a flat iron. After the hair has been allowed to cool, the tail of a rattail comb should be used to create a side part. This part should extend from the front of the hairline to about 2 inches from the crown of the head.

The hair should then be brushed from the part to the hairline’s opposite side. Then, the new section that has been created should be pulled behind the ear. The stylist should then use her hands and a paddle brush to smooth the hair in order to contain all of the random hairs within the new section.

The hair should then be temporarily clipped behind the ear. One small strand of hair can also be pulled from the new section in order to create an accent piece. This strand should be taken from near the eyebrow and it can be left either straight or slightly curled.

Next, the other side of the hair should be brushed until it is smooth. It should be brushed behind the other ear and also clipped temporarily. Each section can then be unclipped from behind the ears one at a time. The sections should then be separated equally into bottom and top sections, making each section into two new sections. The bottom portion should be pulled into a loose ponytail in order to keep it out of the way for the next step.

Then, one of the top sections should be brushed toward the middle of the back portion of the head and rolled into a fairly flat and horizontal hair roll. It should be pinned securely and flatly against the scalp. It is generally necessary to add a light gel or a setting lotion to each section of the hair at this point. Otherwise, the hair may be too slippery and will not hold well.

The other top section should then also be rolled to the middle and back section of the head. It is important to be sure to slightly overlap the first section that was rolled. The second roll needs to be pinned in a fashion that hides the first roll. The entire area then needs to be sprayed with hairspray in order to keep it in place.

A large decorative clip, a flower, or other hair accessory can then be added. Not only is this attractive, it also helps to hide the overlapping hair rolls. For a little more pizzazz, a bit of glitter gel can also be added to the sides or back.

The sections that were being temporarily held in loose ponytails can then be let out. A curling iron can be used to create a soft bend in the ends of the hair. These will also need to be sprayed in order to hold them in place.
